On 02/01/2025, a Columbia County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Interstate 90 near Portage. The driver continued driving and the pursuit reached the Highway 33 exit where the vehicle overturned. The rollover ejected two passengers and one was pronounced dead at the scene. The other passenger sustained critical injuries and the driver plus two additional passengers were hospitalized.
