On 12/20/2025, a Dallas County Detention Officer, 49-year-old James B. Wyatt, was killed in an off-duty single-vehicle crash on Interstate 35E near Cockrell Hill Road. The vehicle left the roadway and collided with a barrier. The officer was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office mourned his death and said the officer was a 17-year veteran of the department.
