On 12/21/2025 at about 12:25 a.m., New York Police Department officers responded to a 911 call from the father of a 29-year-old man in Far Rockaway, Queens. The caller said his son was acting erratically and requested help. Officers met the man’s parents outside a Nameoke Street apartment, entered with them but did not locate the son. As they exited into the hallway, officers observed the man holding a box cutter. Police say they issued multiple commands for him to drop the weapon. An altercation involving the man and his father occurred and ended with the father retreating behind officers. According to NYPD authorities, the man then charged at officers with the box cutter, at which point a Taser was deployed and an officer discharged her firearm, striking him. The man was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The NYPD Force Investigation Division and the New York State Attorney General’s Office are reviewing the shooting. Family members dispute parts of the police account of the confrontation.
