OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 12/19/2025 at about 1:00 a.m., Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle without a license plate near Valley View Boulevard and Twain Avenue. A back-seat passenger, identified as 25-year-old Wunya Lynum, was not wearing a seatbelt and provided officers a false name. As officers attempted to confirm his identity, Lynum exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers located him a few blocks away hiding under a car holding an object he believed to be a weapon. Officers ordered him to drop the item and deployed a Taser without effect. A Metro officer then fired a single shot, striking Lynum. The object he held was later determined to be a cell phone, and Lynum died from his injury.
