On 12/22/2025, San Diego police responded to a standoff at a residence in the 4400 block of 40th Street in the Normal Heights neighborhood. Officers initially reported hearing what they believed were gunshots. After a prolonged standoff, police entered the home and found the man dead inside. Authorities later clarified that the sound initially believed to be gunfire was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident remains under investigation.
