On 12/26/2025, Tjamel Ali Hamlin II, 36, was killed during a shooting that occurred at a business in Mint Hill during a child custody exchange. Police responded to the scene, where gunfire occurred and two Mint Hill police officers were shot and critically injured. Officers opened fire during the encounter, killing Hamlin. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into the shooting.
