OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On December 28, 2025, 44-year-old Perry J. Sellers was shot and killed by officers with the Vancouver Police Department after they responded to a report of a disturbance involving a man with a gun at a home in the 13200 block of Northeast 46th Street in Vancouver. According to police, the initial caller said Sellers was pointing a firearm at a woman inside the residence and had fired at least one round before officers arrived; when officers engaged him, they say he confronted them with the weapon and two officers fired, striking him. He was transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries. Three Vancouver officers, two who opened fire and one witness officer, were placed on critical incident leave per standard protocol, and the Washington State Office of Independent Investigations is conducting an independent investigation. The victim’s wife disputes the police account, saying Sellers did not raise the weapon and was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time; she described him as a kind man and hopes body-worn camera footage will clarify the incident.
