On 12/23/2025, 44-year-old Rahman Rose entered the Karen L. Johnson Division of Motor Vehicles in Wilmington as a customer and opened fire inside the building. According to police, Rose shot and killed Corporal Grade One Matthew T. Snook, a 34-year-old Delaware State Police trooper working an overtime assignment at the reception desk. After the initial shooting, Rose allowed civilians to exit the DMV but continued firing as responding officers approached. A New Castle County police officer fired through a window, striking Rose. Both Rose and the trooper were transported to a hospital, where Rose later died from his injuries. Several others at the scene sustained minor non-gunshot-related injuries. The Delaware State Police continue their investigation into the shooting.
