OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/29/2025 at approximately 12:31 a.m., Virginia State Police located a vehicle that had been involved in an earlier pursuit by Pittsylvania County sheriff’s deputies on Route 29. After using a precision immobilization technique to stop the Ford Fusion on Deerview Road, the driver produced a rifle and fired at a Virginia State Trooper. The trooper returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect, later identified as 25 year old Jacob Wesley Adkins of Hurt, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene. The trooper sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was treated at a hospital. Authorities said the Bureau of Criminal Investigation will review the incident and forward findings for prosecutorial review.
