On December 29, 2025, 55-year-old Willie Rose died after suffering a medical emergency while in police custody in Dallas, Texas. Mesquite police responded to a reported theft at a Family Dollar on Military Parkway around 8:30 p.m. and located Rose’s vehicle nearby. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop and took him into custody. After a brief foot pursuit and a minor physical confrontation, Rose was handcuffed. Shortly afterward, he experienced a medical emergency. Officers removed the handcuffs and began life-saving efforts, including CPR. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported him to Baylor University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:27 p.m. Police have not released body-camera footage and have withheld detailed information about the underlying theft or the medical cause of death as the Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit and the Dallas County Medical Examiner investigate.
