On 12/31/2025, Fontana police were attempting to arrest Hugo Fernandez De Lara in connection with outstanding warrants related to an alleged narcotics investigation. Officers located him seated inside a vehicle near Foothill Boulevard. During the encounter, police stated that his vehicle moved and struck multiple police vehicles. Officers then opened fire and shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances leading up to the shooting and the officers’ use of force remain under investigation.
