On 12/29/2025, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from a local business reporting a woman causing a disturbance. Deputies encountered Amelia Barbara Arnold and alleged that she displayed a firearm, pointed it at her own head, and made suicidal statements. Officers withdrew from close contact. Police stated that Arnold then ran from officers on foot. Deputies pursued her and alleged that she fired at officers during the pursuit. Officers returned fire. During the incident, a deputy driving a patrol vehicle struck Arnold, killing her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
