On 12/31/2025, Daniel Perez Sanchez, 47, was killed in Kansas City after a police chase initiated by the Independence Police Department ended in a multi vehicle crash. Police attempted to stop a stolen Ford pickup for traffic violations in Independence. The driver did not stop. Police escalated a chase that entered Kansas City. At the intersection of East 9th Street and Benton Boulevard, the fleeing vehicle ran a red light and struck a Nissan Cube driven by Sanchez, as well as another pickup truck. Sanchez suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. Three passengers in his vehicle were critically injured. The fleeing driver abandoned the vehicle and left the scene on foot. Kansas City police are investigating the crash.
