OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 03/11/2021, Danville police responded to multiple calls reporting that a man was throwing rocks from an overpass above Interstate 680. Officer Andrew Hall located Tyrell Wilson near the overpass and confronted him. Police said Wilson was holding a folding knife and did not comply with commands to drop it. During the encounter, Officer Hall fired his weapon, striking Wilson. Wilson was transported to a hospital, where he later died. The shooting raised public concern about police use of lethal force in a situation involving behavioral distress on a roadway. The Contra Costa County District Attorney later reviewed the case. No criminal charges were filed against the officer.
