OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 04/10/2021, Winnebago County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed 27 year old Faustin Guetigo outside and inside a residence on Bellwort Drive in Rockford. Deputies were following up on a domestic disturbance reported earlier in the day and located Guetigo outside the home. Deputies attempted to make contact. Guetigo went inside the residence and remained in the basement. Deputies entered the home and approached him. During the encounter, deputies opened fire and killed Guetigo. A deputy was injured during the incident and later released from the hospital. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney reviewed the case and ruled the shooting justified. No officers were charged.
