On 05/15/2021, Birmingham Police officers were attempting to execute a search warrant at an apartment building on 18th Street South in Birmingham, Alabama, while searching for a person connected to an earlier shooting that left two people dead. A tactical police team approached the apartment. Police reported that gunfire occurred during the encounter. Officers shot Brian Timothy Dunne during the incident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
