On 05/16/2021, Grandview Police officers responded to a call placed by Lantz Stephenson Jr. reporting a suicidal situation involving a firearm. Dispatchers reported that Stephenson stated he was armed and wanted to confront police. Officers arrived at a park near Byard Road in Grandview, Missouri, and observed Stephenson from a distance. Police reported that Stephenson moved toward officers while holding a BB gun. Two officers fired, striking Stephenson. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
