On 05/16/2021, Omaha Police officers responded to an assault in progress call near South 41st Avenue and F Street in Omaha, Nebraska. Police reported that Deven Telford was emotionally distressed, had been drinking, and made statements about harming himself. Officers said Telford was holding a handgun and repeatedly placed it to his head while making suicidal statements. A police negotiator attempted to speak with him. Police reported that Telford stepped onto an enclosed porch holding a gun and did not comply with commands to drop it. Officers reported that gunfire occurred during the encounter. Multiple officers fired, striking Telford. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
