On 06/24/2021, Walton County sheriff’s deputies went to a residence on Blackberry Cove Drive in Monroe to serve a felony arrest warrant for Ted Frank Tippy. Deputies encountered Tippy inside the home while attempting to execute the warrant. Police reported that Tippy confronted deputies while holding a handgun. Deputies stated that Tippy fired the handgun into the ceiling during the encounter. Police reported that Tippy then put the gun down but later picked it up again and moved toward deputies. Deputies opened fire and shot Tippy, killing him at the scene. Tippy was 52 years old. Reporting indicated concerns related to mental health during the incident.
