OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 02/05/2022, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Woolie Road in Lincolnton. During the stop, deputies encountered 42-year-old Michael Shane Carver and an altercation followed in a nearby field after he exited the vehicle. Deputies discharged their firearms during the confrontation, striking and killing Carver at the location. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assumed responsibility for reviewing the deputy-involved shooting.
