On 05/02/2022, Bismarck Police Department officers went to 2500 E Broadway Avenue after receiving reports of a disturbance at a business. Officers encountered Eric Hermanson during the response. Authorities reported that Hermanson was holding a knife. Officers fired their weapons and shot Hermanson. He died at the scene. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation took over the investigation. Reporting later identified Hermanson as 53 years old.
