On 06/14/2022, El Monte Police Department officers responded to 10327 Garvey Avenue after a report of a stabbing at a motel. Officers encountered Justin William Flores, 35, in the parking lot. Police stated Flores was holding a handgun during the confrontation. Officers opened fire and shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Two El Monte police officers were shot and killed earlier in the incident during the initial response inside the motel. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department assumed control of the independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
