OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 09/24/2022, Aurora police officers approached a vehicle believed to be stolen at East Alameda Avenue and South Galena Street. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Anthony Edwards, fled on foot when officers attempted to contact him. Officers pursued Edwards as he crossed the roadway and, according to police, he produced a handgun and pointed it toward them prompting officers to fire at him. During the encounter, Edwards raised the handgun to his head and fired a self-inflicted shot. The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a suicide. No officers were injured in the incident.
