On 08/20/2023, Cleveland Division of Police officers responded to the 3700 block of East 55th Street after receiving a report of gunfire from a residence. Police encountered 60-year-old Henry McNight, who remained inside the home as officers responded.

Police reported that two gunshots had been fired from inside the residence. Officers established a perimeter, closed East 55th Street in the surrounding area and summoned the Cleveland Police SWAT team as the incident developed into a barricade and standoff.

SWAT officers surrounded the residence while police attempted to establish communication with McNight. The standoff continued for several hours, with a large police presence remaining in the neighborhood.

Police eventually entered the residence and found McNight dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. His death occurred during the active police and SWAT response and was classified as suicide under police duress.
