On 07/31/2023, law enforcement officers served a warrant in the 100 block of West Beauregard Street in Ville Platte. During the operation, Sistrane Edwards, 53, opened fire. Deputy Marshal Barry Giglio, 65, was shot and killed. Cynthia Soileau, 45, sustained gunshot injuries. Officers returned fire and struck Edwards. He died from gunshot wounds. Authorities reported one firearm was involved. Vonteeko Lamar Anderson, 23, was taken into custody. Investigators reported the warrant involved drug-related offenses and firearm possession.
