On 11/21/2023, Osage Nation police responded to a report of possible stolen property at the Osage Casino and Hotel in Bartlesville. During the encounter in the parking lot, the man attempted to get into a vehicle while an officer tried to stop him, resulting in the officer being partially dragged by the moving vehicle. A civilian intervened and shot the man, who died from the gunshot wound. Authorities clarified that law enforcement officers did not fire the fatal shots.
