OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/01/2023, Westminster police officers responded to a disturbance call in the 1400 block of West 116th Avenue at the Skyview Apartments in Westminster. Officers arrived to find a man being held down by residents. Attempts to de-escalate with a Taser were unsuccessful and the man displayed a handgun during the struggle. A Westminster police officer then fired his service weapon, striking the man. He was transported to a hospital, where he died from gunshot wounds. The officer was placed on administrative leave and the 17th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team conducted the investigation.
