On 04/02/2023, U.S. Border Patrol agents attempted to stop a vehicle near Las Cruces. The driver did not stop. Agents escalated a 23-mile vehicle pursuit that ended on Doña Ana County Road C003. Agents reported that the man exited the vehicle holding a club and struck a Border Patrol agent. Agents opened fire and shot him. He died from his injuries.
