OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 01/25/2021, authorities issued a BOLO for 42-year-old John Marion Dykes Jr. of Leesburg and his vehicle after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office obtained a felony warrant for his arrest on one count of child molestation.
At approximately 3:41 p.m., a Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office deputy located Dykes driving on Highway 129 near the Bleckley/Pulaski County line and conducted a traffic stop just inside Pulaski County. According to the GBI, Dykes fatally shot himself inside his vehicle as the deputy conducted the stop.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation conducted the death investigation at the request of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, and Dykes' body was sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
