Deputies chased him and he steered in and out of oncoming traffic to elude them across 2 counties. With an unknown number of police vehicles from a total of 3 parishes chasing him, Sandel stopped the vehicle at US Highway 171 near Gandy Road, exited and shot and killed himself under police duress.
