On January 4, 2024, at approximately 3:17 a.m., a vehicle reported stolen from Jamaica Plain earlier that morning was being chased by the Boston Police Department at a high rate of speed on Morrissey Boulevard near the University of Massachusetts Boston campus. Police claim that they called off the pursuit just prior to the crash. It is unknown how long before the crash, as the vehicle was still fleeing at a high rate of speed when it crashed, rolled over, and resulted in the deaths of three teenagers while injuring a fourth.

The deceased victims were a 14-year-old from Dorchester, a 15-year-old from Mattapan, and a 17-year-old from Roslindale, who died later. A 15-year-old from Dorchester was injured but survived. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle, though it is unclear whether it was used in a crime.

Audio recordings indicate that supervisors called off the pursuit just prior to the crash. The Massachusetts State Police are conducting the investigation into the incident.
