OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On May 26, 2024, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Pittsfield Police officers initiated a chase after John Francis Tyska, 34, when he ran a red light on West Street at a speed of 60-70 mph while riding a dirt bike. The pursuit continued as Tyska traveled westbound on Housatonic Street, and at the intersection of 664 Housatonic Street, he collided with a 2022 Honda Ridgeline. Tyska was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision led to the closure of Housatonic Street from Osceola Street to Cadwell Road for approximately four hours to facilitate the investigation and clear the roadway.
