On 05/23/2024, deputies from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Johns Sheriff’s Office initiated a high-speed pursuit of 36-year-old Miguel Antonio Moreno after he was accused of peeping and video-recording a young girl. The chase continued until officers deployed spike strips on U.S. 1 near Shores Boulevard, which Moreno's vehicle struck. As a result of hitting the spike strips, Moreno crashed his vehicle and died at the scene. Authorities have not disclosed the speeds involved in the chase or the precise details of the crash.
