OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On February 21, 2024, deputies from the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department were involved in a vehicle pursuit near U.S. 61, south of MS 3, in Lake Cormorant, Mississippi. Deputies executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, bringing the pursued vehicle to a stop.

When the vehicle stopped, deputies released K-9 Officer Luca after the driver, who was identified as 38-year-old Jamarcus Brown. Brown allegedly fired a shot at the attacking dog. Deputies opened fire on Brown, killing him.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent review of the incident.
