On 04/21/2024, 22-year-old Kayla Rodriguez-Garcia was killed in a crash during a police pursuit on Liberty Road in Eldersburg, Maryland. Deputy Kyle Hessler of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office initiated the pursuit of a vehicle following a reported traffic violation.

The fleeing vehicle lost control during the chase, crashing into a car in which Rodriguez-Garcia was a passenger. Emergency responders arrived on the scene, but she was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the collision. Several other individuals involved in the crash sustained injuries, though their conditions have not been disclosed.
