Jackson County deputies escalated a chase on Page Avenue in Blackman Township until the vehicle crashed on E. Michigan Avenue and Dettman Road. The five occupants of the Jeep Wrangler, ranging in ages from 15 to 17, had been driving around the county shooting at vehicles with an Orbeezgel ball toy gun prior to the chase. An Orbeez gun is a toy gun that shoots small balls made of gel.
Deputies had attempted to initiate a traffic stop, activated their overhead lights and siren and chased the Jeep until it crashed and rolled over multiple times near the intersection of Roberts and E. Ganson streets.
Deputies approached the crashed vehicle with guns drawn and detained three teens. Jordan Jarrell, a 15-year-old boy was severely injured after being ejected during the first crash and died from his injuries. Another 15-year-old was treated at the hospital before being taken by helicopter to Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor in critical condition.Another passenger remains in serious condition at Henry Ford with a broken neck. Officers found an Orbeez gun and fifth of alcohol in a search of the vehicle.
