On 04/13/2023, a 41-year-old Hammond man was riding on a motorcycle, traveling on Broadway when an officer with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department attempted to pull him over because there was no visible license plate. The man left the traffic stop. The officer escalated a chase andallegedly lost sight of the motorcycle near 11th and Broadway where the motorcycle crashed into a car, causing the vehicle to roll over. The motorcyclist died. Police never identified him publicly.
