Yankton County deputies initiated a chase around 10 a.m. on 05/10/2023 when a driver refused to stop for a state trooper on state highway 50 outside Yankton. Police escalated the chase to over 100 mph until the vehicle crashed into a semitruck trailer. Two people were killed and 1 critically injured in the fleeing vehicle. The couple had driven the car out of an impound lot which caused the police chase.
