On 09/25/2023, Independence PD tried to pull over a Ford F150 that they believed to be stolen. Police escalated a chase until the panicked driver ended up fleeing head-on in the wrong direction on Little Blue Parkway. Police allegedly “ended the pursuit” just before the hunted vehicle hit the Dodge Avenger of Sharon I. Ault head-on killing her. Ault had been a third party motorist killed by the police chase crash.
