Independence PD in Oregon initiated a high-risk car chase near Salem but has not disclosed why they escalated the chase that ended in the death of one person. Police allegedly tried to make a traffic stop on a car that did not stop for them. Police set up spike strips. The vehicle stopped and a man ran from the car, apparently trying to get into another vehicle when Independence PD caught up with him. Police allege that the man fired a shot at them, injuring an officer. They shot and killed him. The officer is expected to recover.
