A group of Asbury Park police officers investigating what sounded like gunfire tried to traffic-stop a vehicle in the area of Atkins Avenue and escalated a chase. The car fled and crashed into a tree about a mile two people fled while the other two occupants were seriously injured in the crash. One has since died and the other is in critical condition.
