Thibodaux PD escalated a car chase to 115 mph north of Labadieville in Assumption Parish about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday after a deputy saw Johnson driving more than 70 mph on two-lane La. 308 with aheadlights off, per Assumption sheriff's spokesman.
Calvin Tromell Johnson was chased by police for a broken headlight, got out and jumped into Bayou Lafourche, appeared to be "having difficulty staying above water," police said. It is not known with what delay police allegedly went in the water after him but his body wasn't found until about 2 a.m. Wednesday by Thibodaux police officers. No officers were charged.
