Randy DeGroot, a 65-year-old man from Springfield died near Pleasant Plains after a car chase crash involving a Menard County Sheriff's Deputy on May 13, 2022. After a chase over unpaid traffic tickets, DeGroot then crashed near the intersection of Yankeetown Road and Tomlin Road in Sangamon County. He died on the scene and no officers were injured.
