Illinois State Police were conducting a search warrant in the 600 block of N. Cherry Street at the home of former officer Aaron Michael Linke. Police allege that when they made forcible entry into the home, they heard a gunshot. Linke had allegedly committed suicide under police duress. Police did not release BWC footage and no eyewitnesses can be found to corroborate the police narrative. Linke was a former probation officer who had been arrested for distribution of cocaine in 2002. It is unknown what the charges at the time of his death were that led to the search warrant.

Carrollton police officer Steve Nothemwas hit and killed Tuesday night after arriving to back up a fellow officer at 1905 E. Deputy Ned Byrd was shot multiple times while responding to a call on Auburn Knightdale Road near Battle Bridge Road in the eastern part of the county around 11 p.m. Thursday.Byrd did not radio for help after he was shot. He was found dead when the sheriff's office sent other deputies to check on his welfare.
Baker confirmed that Byrd was shot four times while he was outside of his patrol car. Brothers Arturo Sotelo and Alder Sotelo were charged with his shooting and both vehemently denied involvement and pleaded not guilty.

After a shooting was reported in Colorado Springs, police arrived, among them SWAT officer Andrew Peery. Peery and Paz shot at each other. Officer Peery was killed. A deceased woman who was apparently the wife of Paz with whom he was undergoing a divorce was also found dead. John Paz committed suicide under police duress.

On August 4, 2022, Special Police Officer Maurica "ReRe" Manyan, a 25-year-old mother and member of the D.C.
