OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

Officer Ruge was shot and killed after responding to a domestic disturbance call, during which a male barricaded himself in a home with several hostages. Despite a three-and-a-half-hour negotiation, the suspect suddenly opened fire on officers, hitting Officer Ruge while he was exiting the house. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The suspect continued firing from an upstairs window, killing another officer and a firefighter/paramedic.
