On May 4, 2025, around 9:28 a.m., deputies responded to a 911 call from a child reporting that both parents were dead at 1705 Fontana Ranch Road in Hughson. Deputies removed two children from the home and found the bodies of Daniel Hutsell, 40, and his wife, Dinella "Danee" Hutsell. Authorities believe Daniel Hutsell, a sergeant with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department, shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. He had worked with the department since 2011 in roles including detective and SWAT officer. The Modesto Police Department is leading the investigation due to his law enforcement affiliation.
