On 12/10/2025, Spalding County Sheriff’s Office deputy Joe Crumpton died after crashing a sheriff’s office vehicle in Fayette County, Georgia. Witnesses reported the patrol vehicle left the roadway and struck another vehicle. Sheriff Darrell Dix stated there was no police pursuit involved and said evidence suggests Crumpton experienced a medical emergency before the crash. A bystander broke the vehicle window and attempted CPR until emergency responders arrived. Crumpton was transported to Piedmont Fayette Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
