On 09/01/2024, Newton County Sheriff's deputies pursued Andrew Roselius, 37, who was allegedly driving with a hostage. The chase began in Iroquois County, Illinois, crossed into Newton County, Indiana, and returned to Illinois, ending at the intersection of U.S. Route 24 and Concord Road in Sheldon. Roselius exited the vehicle and exchanged gunfire with officers. Deputy Brandon Schreiber was critically wounded, and Roselius was pronounced dead at the scene.
