LASD deputies were in the area of Downey and Artesia for an unrelated issue when they were approached by someone who had been attacked by a man with a garden tool. Police went to detain the man who fled. Deputies caught up with him and shot and killed him, alleging that he had swung the garden tool at them. He was reportedly unarmed except for an unknown garden tool.
