On 07/29/2024, around 3:20 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a burglary in progress at 2630 S Halm Avenue. Officers detained three individuals near the residence. Upon noticing smoke emanating from the house, they summoned the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). Firefighters entered and encountered 31-year-old Lavell Adams, who was holding a knife. LAFD personnel withdrew, and officers established a perimeter. At approximately 5:15 a.m., Adams emerged from a side window, still holding a knife. Officers deployed beanbag rounds, causing him to retreat inside. SWAT was activated, and during their operation, Adams exited again, holding a large butcher knife. Despite commands to disarm, he advanced toward officers, prompting them to discharge their firearms. Adams was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles Police Department's Force Investigation Division is overseeing the investigation.
